ආයුබෝවන් (Ayubowan), Travellers,
This week may seem like any other, but it's actually kinda special. That's because it's our 200th edition of The Detour! Or, at least, thereabouts.
The first edition landed in select inboxes on March 8th 2021, before I even joined Jack's as a Flight Finder. We've long since placed it under several layers of lock and key to protect it until the day comes for The Detour exhibition at the National History Museum. In the meantime, I'll share some of my favourite nuggets of wisdom from our hatching:
- The Rolling Stones played their first-ever Finnish gig on Yyteri Beach in 1965.
- The history of pickling goes waaaay back to Mesopotamia.
- Even in those days, we loved Europe's train network, celebrating the announcement of NightJet's upgraded sleeper network. These days, they're looking pretty sweet.
We've grown a lot over the last four years, but our aim of bringing you interesting and inspiring travel stories (and hopefully a few laughs) has never changed.
Thanks to all of you, dear readers, for helping make The Detour what it is today! If you have any burning travel questions, or topics you'd like us to write about in the future, please share them in the comments or via the button below
Happy travels and safe landings,
Katy - Editor of The Detour
