A Thursday evening flight tip to Istanbul means a kebab for dinner, right?
Well, if you'd rather wait until you're on Turkish soil to see how the pros do it, my favourite spot for döner kebab is called Karadeniz Döner in Beşiktaş. It's a neighbourhood full of trendy bars and restaurants, but it's even better than other popular spots because you're more likely to rub shoulders with locals than the tourists who pack the streets of the Golden Horn.
If you're visiting for the aforementioned kebab, go as close to midday as possible, as they run out really quickly.
What I'd do to guarantee you get there in time is start the day in Breakfast Street (it's as good as it sounds), followed by a mid-morning walk along the Bosphorus, then you circle back around for the döner.
I don't blame you if a kebab is back on the menu for tonight, after all :-)
