Most folks who head to this island make a beeline for Taipei. And can you really blame them? That mix between modern upscale shopping and centuries-old temples is pretty alluring.

Kaohsiung is slower and more laid-back compared to Taipei's go-go-go energy. It's less crowded and super artsy — think refurbished warehouse bars and funky street art. If you want to stay in a city but need a break from the chaos, this is your spot.

Chicago gets to drop right in Kaohsiung, but the rest of you aren't left out either! You can hop a high speed rail from Taipei and be at Zuoying station in just a couple hours :-)
