Munich in $490s-$570s RT

As you hike through the dark forests of the Bavarian Alps (a Munich must-see), keep an eye out for the cutest little creature in German folklore: the wolpertinger.

These chimeric cryptids are usually depicted with the body of a squirrel and the head of a rabbit, plus deer antlers and pheasant wings. Like their American cousins, jackalopes, wolpertingers were invented by taxidermists and sold to gullible tourists before entering local myth in their own right. To see the critter for yourself, just head over to the Hunting & Fishing Museum in Munich's city center and check out their collection of handcrafted specimens.
