Thailand's second-largest island is probably best known for its resorts, for good reason – Koh Samui might be the greatest place in Thailand for folks who just need to relax in the sun with a coconut. If you want infrastructure and infinity pools, look no further!

That said, this is a massive island, and more intrepid explorers definitely have room to dig. Chewang is kind of the "party zone," but venture out to some quieter beaches (Lipa Noi is a fave for those in the know), and those crowds might as well be in another country. Trek into the waterfall-laden, jungle-covered interior of the island, and they might as well be on another planet.

It's also a great starting point for a little island-hopping. Among the surrounding isles you can find some pretty authentic Thai vibes, along with killer dive spots and shockingly uncrowded views.
