Why visit Istanbul in winter?
- Well, the Golden Horn won't be as crammed with tourists as it usually is during summer (you'll just need to wrap up, as spots like the Hagia Sophia aren't heated)
- Some Turkish food is absolutely perfect for the cooler temps, including salep, mercimek çorbası and sulu köfte. My favourite homestyle restaurant is Çiya Sofrası in Kadıköy - really worth the ferry ride across!
- Cheap skiing options in Mount Uludağ or Kartepe - both within a 4-hour drive of the city.
