Winter in Greece is the thing! It's not like the stunning architecture or ancient ruins disappear overnight, after all.

And connecting from Athens to any other island is quite cheap, so you don't even have to stuck to the capital.

Take Crete, for example - it turns out that the so-called Minoans created an ancient civilization here that lasted for several thousand years before mysteriously vanishing (spooky). 

The archaeological museums that dot the whole island stay open during the winter, and the massive ruins at Knossos, sometimes called Europe's oldest city, will be practically empty.

Plus, renting a car and driving around is way cheaper too. The same day could see you checking out the pink sands at Elafonisi before hitting the slopes of Lefka Ori - bet you didn't know you could ski in Crete, did ya?
